Empower others with your story
“We no longer live in the gaps between the stories. We are the story in print, and we are writing the story ourselves.” ~ Elisabeth Moss
I watched the Golden Globes last night as I do every year. I love award shows, from the Oscars to the Emmys, for two reasons:
- They give me inspiration for my event and wedding clients (the stage design, the fashion, the room layout, etc.)
- I’ve been in the show business for several years when I lived in Italy, and I loved that world (I wish I could be one of the actresses receiving an award!)

The 2018 Golden Globes set a different tone because of the subject of sexual abuse and harassment, and stars showed their support 100%. They dedicated their acceptance speeches to the victims, they wore black to raise awareness and show solidarity, and proudly donned pins from the “Time’s Up” campaign. I loved it! Good job! Many people said celebrities don’t care, they just want the attention, but in this case I think it was very personal for them. Sexual abuse and harassment hit them very close, and the community got together by speaking out.
There were awesome speeches last night: Oprah accepted her Cecil B. DeMille Award with very powerful words for young girls watching, and praised women who had to accept abuse for years regardless of culture, geography, race, religion, politics or workplace.
I chose Elisabeth Moss for today’s #MondayMovesMe quote. I’m a big fan of hers and I love her work from The West Wing to Mad Men, movies, Broadway shows, and more. I’m very happy that she won an award for Best Drama Actress last night. Very well deserved for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale.
I liked her speech because, even though it was for those women who were brave enough to “speak out and fight for equality and freedom in this world” as she said, this quote is about empowerment. And when you write your story you empower yourself and others.. Don’t have fear; instead, have the courage to share and write your story. Stop playing small, don’t hide behind broken dreams. Aim big, and inspire others with your story. You will take control for your own life (and business), you will gain confidence, you will get freedom, and you will become a leader.
