(Yes, I’m a cat person!)

Welcome to Episode 11 of Life-Work Balance, something that I’m very passionate about where life should come first, then you can focus on your business. When your body and mind are in balance your well being, energy, productivity, and focus improve. This can lead to a healthier you and also a more successful (and profitable) business professional. This can be achieved by following very simple principles every day. You can find out more HERE.

Today we’ll be talking about sleep which is one of the principles together with nutrition, exercise and time for yourself.

Disclaimer: You should keep in mind that I’m not a doctor, a nutritionist or a dietitian so I can’t give you medical or professional advice, but I can share tips and give you general guidelines on how to improve your health by making small and easy changes. This live video contains general medical information based on my personal experience. This information should not replace medical advice from your doctor or other professional health care provider. If you have any questions in regard to a medical condition, you should consult your doctor or other professional health care provider.

As you know, our body and mind need to rest and recharge every single day and that happens while we sleep. We MUST sleep or we will experience tiredness, a slower ability to react during the day and, in the long run, major health issues including illnesses.
I know, it sucks thinking that we spend one third of our day to sleep but it’s the way we are programmed – I don’t know if I like this word, it makes me think we’re like robots, but you get the idea 🙂 We need to sleep. Period.

Each of us has different needs, and age also plays an important role when it comes to how many hours we need to sleep.
Babies and children and young teenagers tend to sleep a lot more than adults or older individuals and this is supposed to boost their growth and development.
But busy adults very often sacrifice sleep for work, for watching TV, for engaging on social media, and then there’s family, sometimes our long day is not enough to fit everything we want to do. Sounds familiar? I’m sure it does! I’m one of those who would love to buy hours and add them to their day. I wish it were possible to do so….

A general rule of thumb is to sleep between 7-9 hours as adults. This seems an impossible task if you think how busy we are during the day but, if we stick to those numbers our quality of life can dramatically improve. I changed my sleep patterns a few years ago and I can assure you I improved my personal and professional life 100%. And I’ll never go back to a few hours of sleep, it’s not worth it.

One of the secrets to a good night’s sleep is to consider sleep cycles. Please watch my broadcast below for more information about sleep cycles and the Sleep Calculator from How Sleep Works, a great resource that helps you figure out at what time you should fall asleep and at what time you should wake up in order to get maximum benefits from your night sleep.
