I was the guest co-host on #PeriGirlsChat about Coloring
Ah, coloring … Besides the fact that coloring is an excellent exercise for anyone, I love it so much that I decided to introduce coloring into my mastermind groups and it’s very helpful. The participants always give me excellent feedback saying that they can retain the information shared during the sessions better. Their mind is more receptive during the coloring activity and they feel energized, recharged and filled with a lot of ideas and inspiration for themselves and their business.
By now you know how much I encourage everyone to start coloring and do it regularly for many reasons. Coloring is not a silly activity, it has many benefits, including:
- Your brain experiences relief by entering a meditative state
- It lowers stress and anxiety levels because, when you color, you engage in a repetitive exercise paying attention to detail, so you focus on that activity, rather than on your worries
- It fosters positive thoughts since it brings out our inner child, and we get reminded of those days when our life was simple, without all these to-do lists that we have today as adults
- It helps you achieve mindfulness by focusing on the present. That’s why it’s considered a meditative exercise
- It allows you to unplug from technology (and, believe me, it’s a big thing in this tech era!)
- It promotes creativity
- It increases confidence
- It can help you retain information better
I was honored to be the guest during the Twitter #PeriGirlsChat last weekend where the topic was Coloring Book Day. I simulcast the chat every week for The PeriGirls on Periscope and we always have so much fun! Read the chat recap below for more information about coloring, its benefits, and what our community thinks. All the questions were submitted by me.

I was very drawn to coloring in primary school. My parents told me I was meticulous and wouldn't color over the line at all 😉 I apparently took ages to finish (and have it perfect 👌). Now, I love to doodle and just do it for my pleasure #PeriGirlsChat https://t.co/GbcOEqcGxv— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) August 4, 2018

— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) August 4, 2018
Yes! Use anything you can get. There are expensive versions and also cheaper versions, what's important is that you enjoy what you do – coloring shouldn't be a chore, unless you're a designer (on the clock) 🤓#PeriGirlsChat https://t.co/YVwT5ENpuG

I agree. All ages and genders can benefit. I would say those who have been through trauma and not able to talk about it may find it beneficial too. #PeriGirlsChat
— Michele C. Heyward🛠 (@MicheleCHeyward) August 4, 2018
A6 Anyone 🙋
The most important is to not take it as a chore or a to-do, just focus on the process itself. For children, I'd like 2C parents and educators giving them freedom, empowering them to draw, colour whatever and however they wish, not minding the lines #PeriGirlsChat https://t.co/HKkb8T94ht— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) August 4, 2018

A7. It empties my mind while allowing my thoughts to flow to ideas which are more introspective, contemplative, and childhood recollections. #Perigirlschat pic.twitter.com/IJBLA6DVuV
— Dr. Dorrie Cooper (@sittingpretty61) August 4, 2018
A7 I don't do it regularly or scheduled. I prefer to take time for Ilit when I feel the "need" to create, color and de-activate my brain 🧠
I also don't feel the need to finish what I started, just color until I feel like it 🤓 #PeriGirlsChat https://t.co/o3IgvhnviK— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) August 4, 2018
Q8. How can color influence my every decisions and how? #coloringbook #coloroutsidethelines #ColoringBookDay #PeriGirlsChat pic.twitter.com/KEAw4OYTq1

Afterwards, Dorrie, do you write any thoughts down? I have, several times, like ideas or words or even recollections that stuck to me 💕#PeriGirlsChat
— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) August 4, 2018
A8: Color can have a huge impact on the way you make your decisions thanks to #colorpsychology #PeriGirlsChat pic.twitter.com/wMuWgzLevQ
— Sabrina Cadini (@SabrinaCadini) August 4, 2018
A8. We are drawn to color innately and most of us possess a color palette that we are unconsciously aware of and we alter moods by using color to lift our spirit and others. #Perigirlschat
— Dr. Dorrie Cooper (@sittingpretty61) August 4, 2018
Wow, this says it all! #ColorMyWorld #perigirlschat https://t.co/ahgsnkG6t6
— Dr. Dorrie Cooper (@sittingpretty61) August 4, 2018
A8 I know that colour plays a big role – especially for some brands. For myself, I have come to realize I'm naturally drawn to some colours, depending on situation or life changes. Still, pink is a colour I "have" all the time #PeriGirlsChat https://t.co/7zFRGGHVQk
— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) August 4, 2018
Q9. Do you color regularly? What time of the day is best for you? #coloringbook #coloroutsidethelines #PeriGirlsChat pic.twitter.com/sgcxsvSPUa
— The PeriGirls (@ThePeriGirls) August 4, 2018
I tend to write daily and often dream of my childhood and people. I do write things down. I dreamed about both my brothers very recently that passed away. #Perigirlschat
— Dr. Dorrie Cooper (@sittingpretty61) August 4, 2018
A9 No I don't color regularly. Well I do if you count @canva as coloring LOL #perigirlschat

— Dr. Dorrie Cooper (@sittingpretty61) August 4, 2018
A10 #PeriGirlsChat It can become more of my creative actives and help in just bringing a calm to my week:)
